The Disaster Capitalism Curriculum (episode 1): a comic on Education Reform
The beleaguered public school system in the US has been vilified by the media for some time now. Films like “Waiting for Superman” and ex-DC Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee would have us believe that the problem is with ineffective teachers and their all-powerful unions, whose only priority is rank self interest. Their solution? Opening up the system to free market capitalism in the form of educational foundations funded by corporate captains of industry such as Bill Gates, Eli Broad and the Walton family. If all of this bipartisan factionalizing and name calling (at the expense of innocent students) makes your head spin, then click here to read the first part of this series. And find out what Chicago School Economist, free market poster boy and Nobel Prize winner Milton Friedman’s got to do with it all.
